村瀬美恵子先生への追悼

日本美術研究の第一人者であり、多くの学者やキュレーターに影響を与えた村瀬美恵子先生が、2025年2月12日、100歳でご逝去されました。長年にわたり、コロンビア大学やメトロポリタン美術館で活躍され、日本美術の魅力を世界に伝えてこられました。

村瀬先生の研究や展覧会は、日本美術の奥深さを再発見させるものであり、先生の知識と情熱は、多くの人々に受け継がれています。特に『源氏物語』の美術表現や、屏風絵・書画の研究は今なお高く評価され、先生の著作は日本美術を学ぶ者にとって貴重な道標となっています。

In Memoriam: Professor Mieko Murase

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Mieko Murase, a leading figure in Japanese art research who influenced countless scholars and curators. She passed away on February 12, 2025, at the age of 100. Throughout her long and distinguished career, she made significant contributions at Columbia University and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, sharing the allure of Japanese art with the world.

Professor Murase's research and exhibitions have led to a rediscovery of the profound depth of Japanese art, and her knowledge and passion have been passed on to many. Her work on the artistic expressions of "The Tale of Genji," as well as her studies on folding screens and calligraphy, continue to be highly regarded. Her writings remain invaluable guides for those studying Japanese art.

We express our deepest gratitude for Professor Mieko Murase's many years of contributions and offer our heartfelt condolences. May she rest in peace.
